Biography

Douglas S. Gilliland attended the University of Washington in Seattle, Washington and received his Bachelor of Arts in English in 1985.  He then attended the University of Oregon School of Law in Eugene, Oregon where he received his law degree in 1990.  Mr. Gilliland also served as a teaching assistant at the University of Oregon School of Law from 1988 through 1990 and was an staff editor and associate editor for the Oregon Law Review.

After graduating from law school, Mr. Gilliland moved to San Diego, California in 1990 to attend the University of San Diego School of Law.  He studied in the Master of Laws degree program at the University of San Diego School of Law from 1990 to 1991 and graduated with a Master of Laws degree from the University of San Diego School of Law in 1991.

Mr. Gilliland passed the California State Bar in 1991, the same year he graduated with his Masters degree.  He was admitted to practice before all California state courts in 1991 as well as the United States District Court for the Southern District of California.  In 2001, he was admitted to practice before the United States District Court for the Eastern District of California and the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.  In 2002, Mr. Gilliland was admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court.

Mr. Gilliland worked for a 35 attorney law firm from 1991 to 1993.  He went into private practice in 1993 and has been in private practice continually since 1993.  Mr. Gilliland has handled a number of high profile criminal and civil cases that have been covered on many news agencies including Good Morning America, ABC, CBS, NBC, BBC, Los Angeles Times, Wall Street Journal, San Diego Union Tribune and many local news agencies.  His practices focuses on criminal defense, civil right and personal injury trial work.  Mr. Gilliland has received jury verdicts or settlements in excess of one million dollars in each of the top four largest counties in the State of California (San Diego, Orange, Los Angeles and San Francisco).
